Formaldehyde is a colorless, strong-smelling gas with the chemical formula CH₂O. It is the simplest aldehyde, consisting of a carbonyl group (C=O) linked to two hydrogen atoms. Formaldehyde can also exist in solution as formalin, a liquid form with a percentage of formaldehyde dissolved in water.
